Second BSA National Rally

Wallerawang New South Wales 2006

Held from September 30 to November 2nd at the Black Gold Country Cabins, Wallerawang New South Wales Australia.

Perfect weather for a rally, glorious sunny days and cool nights delighted the participants for what must have been the rally of the year. The rally was attended by 129 Beeserphiles from all over Australia who either camped or rented the cabins from Black Gold (who proved to be the most congenial of hosts). They represented not only the 4 Australian BSA clubs but 12 other vintage & classic bike clubs from all around the nation and braved the highest fuel prices ever in this country to participate in this event.

There were 3 organized runs over the 3 day event.

Saturday run to the famous Mt Panorama race track via Rydal & Tarana , 92 miles ( + laps of the circuit). This run featured a lunch stop at St Philomenna's Public School, a visit to the Mt Panorama Motor Museum & some laps of the famous circuit, all under the expert eye ( and lense) of Tim Munro who took some excellent action shots of the boys running round the mountain . Not to overlook 92 miles of fabulous open, winding roads over lightly hilly countryside, sheer beeser bliss. We had 89 bikes on this run and all but 5 completed the journey.Contact Tim for more images of the run.

Sunday run to the Zig Zag Railway via the historic Old Blast Furnace site, returning via the Lithgow Small Arms Museum (quite fitting for a Birmingham Small Arms Motorcycle Rally). This run was a bit shorter as it started after the concours presentations on Sunday morning. Again the weather was perfect and the roads only lightly trafficed , however it did require a run up Senic Hill which, when first opened was so steep that many vehicles had to climb it in reverse, but it proved no challenge to the beesers including both the 1934 W 34 ( which was 2 up) and the 1928 B 28. Rally goers lunched at the Zig Zag Railway and while some took advantage of the discounted steam train ride the others set off for the Samll Arms Museum, this was necessary as the museum is small and could not accomodate all 75 riders ( plus pillions) at the same time. A few less on this run as some riders had to depart early ( which is why the presentations were on Sunday morning) but of the 75 bikes that started all but one returned under their own power another successfull outing to the pleasure of all.

Monday run was again a short one so as to get all riders back to base by lunch in time to pack up and break camp. The ride went to Hampton via Rydal and returned via Bowenfels for a total of 65 miles of sheer motorcycling bliss. Perfect weather again, open empty roads winding around the undulating countryside, what more could a dyed in the wool beeserphile ask for ? There were only 13 starters for this one which was as expected seeing that many rally goers had near 1000km ( or more) to travel home before work on the following day. Needless to say the break down vehicle was not needed on this run .

After dinner entertainment was enjoyed both nights by way of a soloist, Jim ( both nights) and a band ( Saturday only) .

The accomodation was excellent, the food was good, the rides were terrific, the entertainment was first class, the weather perfect & the company delightful. Motorcycling heaven in God's gift to motorcycling.
